A not-for-profit scheme with eleven staff and forty-one depots
Funded entirely by deposits nobody claims, which is a strange incentive to be honest about rather than to hide.
AitOne has operated the deposit return scheme in four parishes since 2021. Eleven staff, forty-one depots, and about thirty-one million containers handled last year.
The scheme is not for profit and holds no contracts with any producer beyond the standard registration. Depots are paid per container handled at a published rate and settled fortnightly; that rate is the same for a supermarket and for a one-room shop in Saint Thomas.
Nine per cent of the fund goes on administration, which is low for a scheme of this size and is audited annually. The full breakdown, including what the eleven of us are paid, is published with the yearly figures.
